Bayou Liberty 112997

Bayou Liberty Jazz Band

The players on this CD represent in many ways a distillation of New Orleans jazz. We were, for the most part, weaned on what we now call traditional or classic jazz, and grew up to be part of the "Dixieland" revival of the 1940's and 1950's. Although we've been influenced by the great spectrum of New Orleans musicians through the years, we agree that our heroes are the original glazers of the music: long forgotten fossils with names like Satchmo and Jelly Roll, Sharkey and Bix. Sure, we're influenced by the playing of the big bands, Pete Fountain and Al Hirt, even Dr. John and the Marsalises, but the original composers and improvisers that created this uniquely American music art form are our true inspiration.
